OpenWrt for the Orange Pi Zero 3
Fixing Wi-Fi that would not register, then writing the theme too.
The problem
The Orange Pi Zero 3 uses a Unisoc UWE5622 (AW859A) Wi-Fi chip, whose OpenWrt support is not mature. On the images going around, the radio comes up but the LuCI Wi-Fi page stays empty.
What I did
- A driver and firmware for the UWE5622, plus a device tree patch so the board is described correctly.
- An implementation of
.dump_station, the piece that lets LuCI ask the driver for client status so the Wi-Fi page finally fills in. - luci-theme-opizwrt, a LuCI theme with a real dark mode and its own login page.
Why it is public
Debugging at this level costs a full build, flash, and boot cycle per guess. Both repositories are open source so the next person with the same board does not have to repeat it.
